AREA A: ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMMUNICATION AND CRITICAL THINKING

Select one course from each category. All courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

A-3: Critical Thinking

ENGL 1B, 1C; HIST 5; PHILO 5; SPCOM 2
Engl 1B, Hist 5, or Philo 5 may be used to satisfy either Area A3 or C2 but not both.

AREA B: SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING

Select one course from each category. One Physical or Life Science course must include a laboratory experience (underlined). Courses in area B-4 must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

B-1: Physical Science

CHEM 1A, 1B, 10, 11, 12, 20; ESC 1, 5, 10, 12, 22, 30, 33, 40, 42, 50, 62; GEOGR 15; PHYCS 1, 2, 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B.

B-2: Life Science

BIOL 2, 4, 6, 10, 17, 24, 60, 65.

B-3: Laboratory Activity

Students must select at least one laboratory experience (see underlined courses in areas B-1 and B-2).

B-4: Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning

MATH 2, 4A, 4B, 6, 8, 12, 17A, 17B, 18A, 18B.

AREA C: ARTS AND HUMANITIES

Select one course from area C-1, one course from area C-2, and one additional course (different discipline) from either C-1 or C-2.
9 units minimum

C-1: Arts (Art, Cinema, Dance, Music, Theatre)

ART 11, 12, 13; DRAMA 10, 20, 42, 43; H-HP 20, 27; MUSIC 2, 10, 11, 12.

C-2: Humanities (Literature, Philosophy, Languages Other than English)

ENGL 1B, 11, 17, 18, 46, 47, 49, 50; HIST 5; HUMAN 1, 2, 3, 4; INDIS 1; PHILO 1, 4, 5, 25; SIGN 40A, 40B, 40C; SPAN 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B.
Engl 1B, Hist 5, or Philo 5 may be used to satisfy either Area A3 or C2 but not both.

AREA D: SOCIAL SCIENCES

Select one course from D-1 through D-0. Students are expected to complete the American Institutions requirement in this section (courses identified in section F).
